David Vigorito Wins Boston University Open

On a recent trip to Boston we took in the Boston University Open (David Vigorito took first with a perfect score) and checked out the chess scene at Harvard Square in Cambridge (where a lot of imperfect but nonetheless fun chess was being played).

Steve Morgan Elected to CCLA Board of Directors

Maine chess expert and coach Steve Morgan was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Correspondence Chess League of America. CCLA is a non-profit organization that has been conducting postal chess tournaments since 1897, as CCLA since 1909. Congratulations Steve!

2010 Scholastic State Championship Dates Announced

The Maine Association of Chess Coaches had its annual fall meeting on October 17, 2009 at the University of Maine in Orono. In addition to other issues discussed, the group decided on the dates for the 2010 scholastic state championships. Included here are detailed meeting notes compiled thanks to Ron Lewis.

Plotkin Wins Eastern Maine Open; Parker Surprises

Massachussetts expert and Bowdoin College student David Plotkin scored a perfect 4.0 points to take first at the 2009 Eastern Maine Open played at the University of Maine on November 7th. The other big story at the tournament was Wesley Parker's 2037 performance rating.

Eastern Maine Open *Reminder*

November 3, 2009

The 2009 Eastern Maine Open is scheduled for this Saturday, November 7th in the Memorial Union of the University of Maine Orono. The tournament will be a four round swiss at G/60 and will be played in four sections (Open, U1400, U1000 and U600). Lots of prizes and a Culturefest in the UMO field house from 11:00 - 3:30 make this a great pre-holiday event.
