Former MECA President Michael Dudley Awarded ICCF CM Title

On January 8, 2024, Michael Dudley was awarded the title of Correspondence Chess Master with the International Correspondence Chess Federation. In order to receive this title, a player has to obtain two tournament norms in certain tournaments totaling at least 24 games, meeting a designated performance in each tournament based on the rating of the field and the rating of the participant.

Rafi Hopkins Takes First at Cobscook MLK Day Chess Tournament

January 16, 2024

Thirty-three players came out for the MLK Day Chess Tournament at the Cobscook Institute in Trescott on Monday, January 15, 2024. Rafi Hopkins won the Open section with a perfect score of 3.0 points in three games. Michael Taylor, playing in his first US Chess rated tournament, swept the field in the U800 section with an unbeaten and untied performance of 4.0 points. Early-Stage Social Engagement Chess Club Continues in Portland

The Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter and The Park Danforth are continuing their partnership to bring a new early-stage Alzheimer's social engagement program focused on enjoying chess. The new club will meet at The Park Danforth at 777 Stevens Avenue in Portland in February, March, and April.

Eliot Community Services Seeking Chess Instructor

Eliot Community Service Department is seeking a chess instructor at the Eliot Elementary School from 3:15-4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays to run an after-school instructional chess club for a maximum of 10 students. 3rd Annual Kennebunk High School Chess Tournament Report

18th Aurora Winter Solstice Chess Tournament Report

A whopping 73 players turned out (the largest number in this event's history) to compete in the 18th Aurora Winter Solstice Chess Tournament held in the tiny hamlet of Aurora, Maine on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Ray Haines Wins Inaugural Maine Senior Chess Championship

November 18, 2023

Twenty players competed in the first-ever Maine Senior Chess Championship for players aged 50 and over on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Bangor High School. Ray Haines took the top spot with a perfect four wins in four rounds. This event was the qualifier for the Annual John T. Irwin Tournament of Senior State Champions to be held on July 27-30, 2024 in Norfolk, Virginia.
