A new event on the Maine chess tournament calendar, the Bangor City Championship organized and directed by Maine Chess Association Secretary Wyatt Hendrix, attracted twenty-five players in one section. A four-way tie for first place resulted between Hendrix, Benjamin Mock, Tommy Owen, and Tristan Cousineau. Here are the full results, images from the day and US Chess crosstables. |

Over the weekend of October 11-14, 2019, the Maritime Chess Festival took place in the beautiful community of Summerside, Prince Edward Island. The Festival, which offered five separate tournaments: Blitz, Open, Junior, Amateur, and Senior as well as other chess-related and sightseeing events, went off swimmingly thanks to the hard work and dedication of many. Particular thanks and kudos go to the Festival's chief organizer Fred McKim of the Maritime Chess Center in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. |

The United States will enter a team in the first-ever Deaflympics to include chess as a sport. Sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the 2019 Deaflympics, to be held at three locations in northern Italy in December of this year, will host hundreds of athletes from over two dozen countries competing in six sports: alpine skiing, chess, cross country skiing, curling, ice hockey, and snowboarding. |

Former Maine State Champion, organizer, director, coach, and artist Roger Morin, who passed away on July 8th, left a large number of his original artworks in The Art Studio at 102 Court Street in Houlton, Maine. On Friday and Saturday, October 18-19, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. his artworks, many of which are chess themed, will be available for purchase. |

The Cape Elizabeth Open and Scholastic was played Saturday September 28th, at the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth.
