In Memory: Frank Alexander Relyea (December 5, 1972 - August 16, 2025)

With a heavy heart we report the passing of Frank Alexander "Alex" Relyea. Alex was a FIDE International Arbiter who directed at the United States Chess Championships, the US Blind Chess Championship, and many FIDE norm tournaments. He was awarded US Chess Organizer of the Year and ICCF Webserver Silver Medal and recently achieved an ICCF International Master norm. Alex was incredibly generous with his time and expertise. This allowed countless chess players in Maine and beyond to play, learn, and engage with chess and the chess community. Alex was a great friend and an amazing colleague. He will be sorely missed. Our sincere condolences to Alex's family and friends.

Help Lubec Chess Club Enhance Stockford Park

2025 Maine State Championship Tournament Report

Roger J. Morin Maine Invitational Tournament Report

The 2024 Roger J. Morin Maine Invitational was played on Friday Dec 13th through Sunday Dec 15th, in North Yarmouth. The tournament is an annual invitational event which seeks to pit the top 8 players in the state against each other in a classical round robin event where every player gets to play each other. Second Sunday Standard in Lubec Tournament Report

The Lubec Chess Club continues to promote chess by offering opportunities to learn and play in Lubec and Washington County, Maine. A new series of monthly tournaments is being offered on Sundays at the Lubec Memorial Library alternating monthly between 5-round double Swiss G/3+2 and 3-round standard time control (G/45+5) tournaments. This month's edition was the Second Sunday Standard tournament. Nine players turned out despite monsoon-like rains to compete in an intimate tournament with the feel of an international invitational that was both challenging and highly enjoyable. No School Friday Chess Tournament Report

Chess players turned out in droves to compete in MDI Chess' No School Friday Chess Tournament on Saturday, March 14th at Northeast Harbor Library. Across the state, many students had that Friday off for a teacher professional development day.
