Arkady Dvorkovich has been elected as FIDE President at the FIDE General Assembly in Batumi, Georgia. Delegates from the World Chess Federation elected Dvorkovich with 56.9% of the vote. Dvorkovich's rival, current FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos, received 43.1 % This election result officially begins the post-Ilyumzhinov era of the World Chess Federation. |

The 43rd Chess Olympiad began today in Batumi, Georgia. One hundred fifty teams, representing over one hundred eighty nations, are participating in each the Open and Women's sections. The United States is the defending champion in the Open section and is also the number-one seeded team with an average rating of 2777. The U.S. Women's team is seeded 10th in the Women's section with an average rating of 2382. |

Chess comes in many forms: standard, 960, bughouse, and blindfold to name a few and many time controls: correspondence, standard, quick, blitz, and lightning. On Saturday, September 15, 2018, nineteen players gathered in Saco, Maine to try their hand at a six-round quick chess tournament with a time control of G/25 and a 3-second delay. When the dust cleared, Matthew Fishbein stood at the top of the crosstable with 5.5 points. |
