Wyatt Hendrix Wins New Hampshire Amateur

Maine Chess Association's own Wyatt Hendrix took first at the 2021 New Hampshire Amateur tournament played on November 6, 2021 in Manchester, NH. In a field of twenty-six players in the Championship section, Hendrix scored a perfect four points in four rounds--that's undefeated and untied. We congratulate Wyatt on this tournament victory and for representing Maine so ably.

WGM Sabina Foisor Lecture and Blitz Match Challenge at Maine Craft Portland, December 2-3

As part of the Craft Maker's Gambit: An Exhibition Inspired by the Game of Chess at Maine Craft Portland (MCP) at 521 Congress Street in Portland, the Maine Chess Association has teamed up with MCP to invite special guest WGM and 2017 US Women's Chess Champion Sabina Foisor to Portland. WGM Foisor will give a lecture on Thursday, December 2nd and take on all comers in a series of blitz chess (G/3) matches on Friday, December 3rd. Here's more information and registration links.

Chess Tables Installed in Downtown Bath

An organization called Age Friendly Communities of the Lower Kennebec has installed three concrete chess tables and chairs at the corner of Front and Elm Streets in downtown Bath. This community building initiative hopes to connect people of all ages in a friendly and welcoming environment. ChessMaine is working with community leaders in Portland to create a similar installation in a downtown public park.

Opening Night at The Craft Maker's Gambit

The Craft Maker's Gambit: An Exhibition Inspired by the Game of Chess opened at Maine Craft Portland at 521 Congress Street on Friday, November 5th. Maine-made, chess-inspired, works of art were on display. The exhibition will continue though December 31st with special guest Women's Grandmaster and 2017 U. S. Women's Chess Champion Sabina Foisor providing a lecture on Thursday evening December 2nd and Blitz games on Friday, December 3rd. Watch ChessMaine.net for more details on these events coming soon.

George Cunningham Brilliancy Prizes for 2021 Quarter 3

The Maine Chess Association accepts nominations for brilliant chess games played by Mainers either over the board or online. For the 3rd quarter of 2021, Tristan Cousineau received the George Cunningham Brilliancy Prize and $100. Oisin O'Searcoid received an Honorable Mention for his outstanding game. The Craft Maker's Gambit: A Exhibition Inspired by the Game of Chess

MAINE CRAFT PORTLAND CELEBRATES THE OPENING OF "THE CRAFT MAKER'S GAMBIT", FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2021 FROM 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The exhibition, inspired by the Game of Chess, will run from November 5th - December 31st 2021. The showcase features 28 renowned Maine craft artists working in a variety of media.

U.S. Championships: Wesley So Repeats, Carissa Yip Dominates

Wesley So won the 2021 U.S. Chess Championship playoff played at the St. Louis Chess Club and Scholastic Center after finishing in a three-way tie for first with Fabiano Caruana and Sam Sevian with 6.5/11. Carissa Yip took the U.S. Women's Championship title with one round to spare dominating the field with 8.5/11 and 1.5 points ahead of her nearest rival.

1st Maine Online Open Tournament Report

Two and a half years in the making, the 1st Maine Online Open played on Chess.com concluded on September 21, 2021. Twenty-six players competed in this three-round tournament with a time control of three days per move producing 102 games. Finishing equal first were Ruben Babayan (64blacknwhite) and Dan DeLuca (ChessMaine).

Maine Scholastic Chess Initiative
