Maine Online High School Chess League Week 1 Report

The first week of the inaugural Maine Online High School Chess League has wrapped up! Five teams from across the state are currently in the mix for this online league held on chess.com: Cape Elizabeth High School, Bonny Eagle High School, John Bapst Memorial High School, Deer Isle-Stonington High School, and Morse High School. These teams will square off for up to seven weeks of competition.

Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Ed. Seeks Online Chess Instructor

The Adult Education program in Old Orchard Beach/Saco is looking for a chess instructor to teach an online chess class. The semester begins in April but the catalog goes out at the end of January so time is short. George Cunningham Brilliancy Prize Reinstated

The Maine Chess Association, together with the donations of two anonymous donors, has reinstated the George Cunningham Brilliancy Prizes for 2021 and 2022! The George Cunningham Brilliancy Prizes are meant to reward games from Maine Chess Association members that are aesthetically pleasing, brilliant, interesting, and instructional.

Twenty-Five Years in the Making! Phish vs Audience Rematch

December 30, 2020

Exactly 25 years after the audience at the 1995 New Year's Eve Phish show at Madison Square Garden evened the chess match score at one point apiece, fans will have an opportunity for a rematch. You can watch that historic show and, at the same time, participate as one of the members of the audience who will try to win the match.

Introducing: The Maine Online High School Chess League

Maine Chess Association president Michael Dudley has organized the Maine Online High School Chess League. All Maine high schools that can field a five-player team are eligible to participate in the League which will compete from January 10 - February 26, 2020. Each team will play two games (one with each color) per week for five weeks followed by a semifinal and final round. The time control will be G/30 +5.
